Project Overview
TELEPROM-G is developed to provide help to fragile seniors with depressive symptoms. It uses tablet devices (small computers) and a health record to allow people to assess how they are doing from the comfort of their home. They can have reminders around important activities. They can also use the tablets for face to face communication with their health care providers from their homes. This project will develop and test this system. The growing older adult population in Canada needs new solutions to ongoing challenges associated with healthcare delivery. This is particularly true for older adults experiencing frailty due to complex healthcare needs caused by depressive symptoms and additional physical health issues. Multidisciplinary healthcare providers from geriatric mental health programs in London, Ontario will use this technology to clinically assess and monitor patients living in the community. The health care providers will be able to monitor changes in health and functional well- being, and will receive alerts with significant changes. This allows for early action when problems arise. The research team will evaluate the value of the TELEPROM-G and pilot test it with 30 people.
